About Us
The Neville Trust was founded in 1605 by Thomas Cecil, 1st Earl of Exeter, and his wife, Dorothy Neville. The charity made provision for a Master and Mistress to instruct “12 poor girls from Well and Snape” in knitting, sewing, spinning and religion. In 1788 the Trust created free schools in both villages. Each house could send a boy and a girl between the age of 6 and 14 as a free scholar.

The trust has continued to support the education of young people from the Parish ever since. The trustees sold Well School and School House in 2010. The money raised from the sale was invested and now provides an annual income which is used to award grants to support the education of people up to the age of 30 who live in the Parish of Well with Snape.
